Front Hub Clicking: Cup-and-Cone Bearings or Something Else?

A click from the front wheel specifically is a shorter list of suspects than it seems — and bearings are actually one of the less common causes.

Check first: quick-release or thru-axle tension

A front wheel that isn't fully seated or clamped with adequate tension can develop a small amount of movement between the axle and the fork dropouts, producing a click with every wheel rotation or every bump, especially noticeable over rough surfaces.

Fully open the skewer or thru-axle, reseat the wheel firmly into the dropouts, and reclamp to the correct tension. Check second: disc rotor bolts (disc brake wheels)

Check fourth: cable or housing rubbing the front of the fork or spokes
