Tiiks vs BMC Companion: Extra Warranty Years vs an Independent Catalog
BMC Companion can turn a 2018+ BMC frame warranty from three years into five if you register in time. Tiiks does not extend that warranty. It tracks any bike’s named parts.
You bought a BMC, or you are about to, and someone in the shop mentioned six months. Register the bike in the official companion within six months of purchase and the frame warranty moves from three years to five. That extra two years is a BMC Switzerland AG perk. It lives in the BMC Companion App. Tiiks does not extend a BMC warranty. If that is the job you came to do, this comparison is already over, and you should open their app first.
The rest of the page is for the other job: knowing the parts. BMC Companion will schedule maintenance, keep service history, and — if you link a cycling app such as Strava — send health-check reminders per component. That is not the same as putting ride distance on named catalog parts and asking service or replace against verified rider reviews. One app is an OEM companion with a warranty lever. The other is an independent catalog that works for any bike.
What BMC Companion actually is
BMC Companion is the official brand app from BMC Switzerland AG. It offers scheduled maintenance, service history, and what they call a streamlined riding experience. The warranty rule is specific: a BMC bike registered within six months of purchase takes the frame warranty from three years to five. The program is for BMC models from 2018 on. Other brands can be entered by hand with the same functions, except the BMC warranty extension. That exception is the point of the app for a lot of owners.
Link the bike with cycling apps — Strava is the example they give — and you get health-check reminders per component. Service history exists at the component level and for the whole bike, with notes from you or a mechanic. Around that sit group rides, avatars, a rider type, brand benefits, exclusive perks, and a digital community. It is a companion: the bike, the brand, the people who also bought the badge. Treat the warranty math as their rule, and treat the community as a brand room.
What Tiiks remembers
Tiiks is native on iOS and Android and is not a brand companion. Strava rides put distance on the bike and on each fitted component — twenty slots — automatically. The part is a catalog part with specs. Reviews are verified rider reviews with real mileage. The call is service versus replace. The history stays with the bike, any brand, including a BMC you already registered somewhere else. The Home Screen widget shows those parts. We do not add two years to a frame warranty. We do not ship group-ride avatars. We track the cassette.
Two warranty years only BMC can give you
If you own a 2018-or-later BMC and you are still inside six months of purchase, the companion is the only place that perk lives. Three years becomes five. That is not a feature we can copy, and we will not advertise around it. Register there. Keep the confirmation. Then decide whether you also want an independent catalog for the parts. The warranty job and the catalog job can both be true. Only one of them extends the frame.
An OEM companion versus any bike’s catalog
BMC Companion is built around BMC. Other brands can be typed in with the same maintenance tools, minus the warranty extension, which is a courtesy, not a cross-brand catalog. There is no library of verified rider reviews sitting on those manual entries. Tiiks treats the bike as a bike. The catalog is the same whether the badge is BMC or anything else you actually ride. If your garage is one BMC and a commuter from another brand, an OEM room will always care more about the BMC.
Strava as a reminder trigger versus Strava as part mileage
BMC Companion can link Strava and then send health-check reminders per component. That is a nudge: time to look at the part. Tiiks reads the same kind of ride and puts the kilometers on the bike and on each fitted catalog component, then keeps a service-or-replace history. A reminder is a calendar tap. Mileage on a named part is a number that moved. Do not let “we connected Strava” sound like the same product. The pipe can be shared. The object at the end of the pipe is not.
Brand community versus reviews with kilometers
Group rides, avatars, rider type, exclusive perks, a digital community — the companion is also a clubhouse. Fine, if you wanted the badge in a feed. Tiiks does not run a BMC room. We put verified rider reviews next to the part, with the mileage they rode, across brands. A perk is a brand gift. A review at 2,800 km is evidence. If you wanted both a clubhouse and a catalog, keep the official app for the perk and the community, and keep the catalog where the catalog is.
Who BMC Companion is enough for
Open BMC Companion first if you have a 2018+ BMC and you want the extra two years of frame warranty — or you already have it and you want official service history, health-check reminders, and the brand room. That job is only there. Choose Tiiks if you want an independent catalog that works for any bike, Strava mileage on twenty named slots, verified reviews, and a widget that already received the ride. If you own the BMC and you also want the catalog, use both. Do not ask us for a warranty we cannot grant, and do not ask them for a cross-brand review library they do not ship.
Questions we get
Will Tiiks extend my BMC frame warranty?
No. The three-to-five-year step is a BMC program inside the official companion, for a BMC from 2018 on, registered within six months of purchase. We do not stand in that contract. If the extra years matter, finish that registration before you shop for a catalog.
Can I log a non-BMC bike in their app?
Yes. Other brands can be entered manually with the same maintenance functions, except the BMC warranty extension. You still will not get a cross-brand parts catalog with verified rider reviews. You will get their scheduler and their history tools on a bike the perk does not cover. Tiiks will take that same non-BMC bike and put catalog parts and Strava mileage on it.
They use Strava. Isn’t that the same wear model?
They use Strava to trigger health-check reminders per component. Tiiks uses Strava to put ride distance on the bike and on each fitted catalog part, then asks service or replace against a history and against reviews that include mileage. Same example app in the sentence. Different ending. A reminder says look. Mileage says how far. If you wanted both a warranty perk and numbered parts, you already know which app does which ending.
