Tiiks Widget: Your Bike's Status at a Glance — Without Opening the App

We built a widget that shows upcoming service items right on your home screen. On iOS 26, it updates instantly after every ride — no taps, no opening the app.

Picture this: you get back from a ride, park the bike, and want to check at a glance: everything fine, or is something due for service? Before, that meant opening the app, finding the right bike, scrolling through the component list. Three taps, ten seconds. A small thing, but when you do it after every ride, something feels off.

So we built the Tiiks Widget. A small block on your iPhone home screen that shows which components are coming up for service: without opening the app. One glance, and you already know your bike's status.

What the Widget Shows

The Tiiks Widget displays your bike and the nearest components that will need service soon. For example: chain: 320 km to service, rear cassette: next month, brake pads: two weeks. Not just numbers: smart prioritization: what's most urgent comes first.

If everything is fine and no component needs attention any time soon, the widget shows your bike's overall status and total mileage. Peace of mind is information too. Good information.

iOS 26: Instant Updates After Every Ride

Before iOS 26, any widget on iPhone updated on a schedule: once every few minutes or hours, depending on what the system decided. That meant there was always a delay between your actual mileage and what was shown on screen. Sometimes up to an hour.

iOS 26 brought a new Background Refresh API for WidgetKit. Now Tiiks can send a signal immediately after syncing with Strava and the widget updates instantly. Not on a schedule. Not 'when the system decides'. Right after the ride lands from Strava.

In practice it looks like this: you finish your ride, park the bike, glance at your phone and already see the current component status with your just-logged kilometers included. No taps. No 'please wait, syncing'. It's just there.

We could have launched the widget much earlier with a basic hourly refresh. But we waited for iOS 26 to do it properly. Because 'actually useful' matters more to us than 'just shipped'.

Multiple Bikes: Multiple Widgets

If you have one bike: simple. One widget, one bike, always up to date. But what if you have a road bike, an MTB, and something for gravel? You want to see the status of each without switching between them.

That's why we built the bike binding system. Add as many widgets to your home screen as you need: each one tied to a specific bike. Road bike on the left, MTB on the right, status of each visible at a glance. No more 'what's going on with the gravel bike?'

Setup is two steps: long press on the widget → 'Edit' → select a bike from the list. Done. From then on, it always shows exactly the bike you chose.

We're Just Getting Started and That's Honest

Tiiks is an MVP. We're not trying to hide that behind marketing words. Right now there's a core: Strava sync, component tracking, service reminders, a catalog and now a widget.

But we know well that a lot is still missing. Some bikes aren't in the catalog yet. Certain component specs are incomplete. Some service intervals need tweaking. This isn't a secret: we know about it and fix it gradually.

We're building Tiiks for the long term. Every new feature ships only when it's done properly, not rushed. That makes some things slower than we'd like. But when they come out, they come out right.

If Something Looks Wrong: Write to Us

The bike catalog is a big thing. Thousands of models, hundreds of manufacturers, dozens of configurations per line. We do our best to keep the data accurate, but mistakes happen.

If you see that your bike's components are listed incorrectly, a service interval looks off, or something just behaves strangely: write to us. Through the in-app support or at contact@tiiks.com. We read every message.

Several features now in Tiiks came from exactly these kinds of messages. Not always fast, but if the idea makes sense. It it eventually becomes part of the app.

Try It Right Now

If you already have Tiiks: update to the latest version and add the widget to your home screen. If iOS 26 isn't installed yet, now is the time: the instant widget update is one of the things that makes the update worth it.

If you don't have Tiiks yet: download it and spend five minutes setting up your bike. After the first ride syncs from Strava, you'll see what it looks like in practice: current component status on screen without opening the app once. Tiiks tracks the kilometers, reminds you about service, and shows everything you need: right from your phone's home screen.
